As the Director of COMBO, I coordinate our team’s operations to make sure we are all supported, organized, and prepared for every outreach initiative.

As the Communication Chair, I am responsible for maintaining and expanding the relationships that UC COMBO has with teachers, schools, and other entities interested in workshops like ours.

As the Volunteer Coordinator, I oversee and support volunteers to ensure the smooth delivery of workshops and events.

As the Scientific Content Chair, I work with a group of dedicated volunteers to develop new workshops and outreach activities to explain computational biology to the public.

As the Teaching Chair, I refine lesson plans and create resources to help volunteers feel prepared to lead workshops and make our teaching clear and engaging.

John Novembre, Phd

I got my start in this field through a combination of enjoying computer programming as a hobby and thinking about evolution as one of the world’s most fascinating natural processes. Now, my main research tackles statistical and theoretical problems to help enable discoveries about evolutionary processes and the nature of disease variation. Much of that work is in the context of human genetic variation, which is doubly fascinating because of the connections to fields like linguistics, archaeology, and history.
